The objective of the Project is to increase agricultural production and farmers’ income by providing infrastructure for small scale water resources management, agri-business-related facilities/equipment and rural infrastructures, and training and technical supports to Water Management Cooperative Associations, thereby contributing to poverty reduction and food security as well as socio-economic development.

1) New Development of 145 Small Scale Water Resources Development (SSWRD) subproject includes:

a) Providing water resources development facilities (infrastructures for water conservation, flood management & drainage, command area development, bridges/culverts for crossing khal or canal, tree plantation, silt management, solar systems etc.);
b) Establishing Water Management Cooperative Associations (WMCAs) for sustainable water resources management; and
c) Providing WMCAs office building.

2) Additional Development of 90 existing SSWRD subproject of JICA-1 includes:

a) Providing additional water resources management and agricultural facilities (infrastructures such as providing bridges/culverts over the canal/water control structure, tree plantation, etc. for enhancing existing command area, equipment for agricultural/fishery development, equipment for women empowerment);
b) Strengthening existing WMCAs; and
c) Providing WMCAs office buildings if necessary.

3) Flagship Development for 9 existing subproject of JICA-1 includes:

a) Providing additional water resources management/agricultural facilities (infrastructures for enhancing existing command area, equipment for agricultural/fishery development, equipment for women empowerment, bridges/culverts for crossing khal or canal, tree plantation, silt management, solar systems etc);
b) Strengthening existing WMCAs;
b) Rural markets and market access roads; and
c) Multi-functioned WMCA Office (warehouse, solar dryers, training room, consumer store, demonstration farm, etc.)

4) Enhancement/Rehabilitation (Financed by GOB ) 46 existing SSWRD subproject previously developed under GOB/other Development Partner except JICA-1, includes:

a) Enhancing/Rehabilitating existing subproject to increase command area and making well and efficient functioningby providing and rehabilitating required agricultural water management infrastructures (infrastructures for enhancing existing command area, equipment for agricultural/fishery development, equipment for women empowerment, bridges/culverts for crossing khal or canal, tree plantation, silt management, solar systems etc);
b) Strengthening existing WMCAs; and
c) Providing Rehabilitating WMCAs office buildings as necessary.

Targeted total 290 subprojects will cover about 1,06,430 ha cultivated area to increase agricultural production of about 1,08,133 MT (cereal & non-cereal crops), fisheries production of about 266 MT and employment generation of about1,08,825 M/M.
