Senior Structural (Bridge) Design Engineer |

·A qualified civil engineer, at least a
bachelor’s degree in civil engineering; a post-graduate qualification in
structural engineering is preferred. ·
Fellowship or Membership
of the Institution of Engineers in Bangladesh is preferred. ·
Membership of
another professional engineering or transportation body is an advantage. ·Minimum 13 years of experience in
planning, design, construction and maintenance of rural infrastructure
(roads, bridges and culverts, buildings and markets) with a minimum of 10
years of specific experience in all aspects of the design and construction
supervision of bridges in Bangladesh, including bridges larger than 100m
span. ·
Proven work skills
in multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural work environments. · Proven communication skills (excellent
command of spoken and written English). · Computer literacy and ability to work
with standard office and engineering software. |
The Structural
Design Engineer will be responsible for the detailed engineering design and
preparation of bills of quantities and cost estimates for all bridges on
rural road upgrading subprojects. Specifically the Structural Engineer will: 1. Define the locations of all new bridges
on Project roads. 2. Define the requirements for and oversee
the conduct of site engineering surveys – topography, hydrology, bore holes)
and collection of other data needed for the design of the bridges, and carry
out site inspections of proposed subprojects. Recommend remedial actions to
the competent authority where problems arise. 3. Supervise and check the accuracy of all
contracted-out engineering site survey work for bridges. 4. Analyze the survey data to determine the
required waterway capacity and freeboard above high water level of each
bridge. 5. In respect of bridges greater than 100 m
span coordinate the conduct of contracted-out detailed hydrological and
morphological surveys and check the accuracy of the outputs. 6.
Prepare the
detailed and cost-effective design and approve the drawings for each bridge
greater than 30 m span including the piling and abutments, the
superstructure, the carriageway and protection works. Accomplish the design
of the bridge approaches. 7. Where necessary, coordinate with
contracted-out specialized services for the design of bridges greater than
100 m span. 8. Be responsible for preparing the bill of
quantities with detail estimate and the cost estimate for each road/bridge
subproject. |

Quality Control Engineer |

Engineers in Bangladesh is preferred. (3)
Membership of
another professional engineering or transportation body is an advantage. (4) Minimum 10 years of experience in
planning, design, construction and maintenance of rural infrastructure
(roads, bridges and culverts, buildings and markets) with a minimum of 3
years of experience, including at site level, in dealing with soils and
construction materials, design standards and specifications, quality control
and testing procedures for rural infrastructure works. (5) Proven work skills in multi-disciplinary,
multi-cultural work environments. (6) Proven communication skills (excellent
command of spoken and written English). (7) Computer literacy and ability to work
with standard office and engineering software. |
The Quality Control Engineer will work under the
direction of the Project Director and Superintending Engineer concerned
Region and in close collaboration with the Executive Engineer Districts, the
Senior Assistant Engineers, Districts and Upazila
Engineers concerned upazila. The Quality Control
Engineer will support those aspects of the Executive Engineers works that
relate to materials quality and safety control and specifically will: 1) Advise and
support the upazila engineers in assisting the
Executive Engineers to carry out site investigations for subproject design,
particularly in relation to investigations of soils and the identification of
remedial measures to address any problems. 2) Review the
existing LGED laboratory and on-site facilities, staffing and procedures for
quality control testing and where necessary recommend improvements. 3) Provide
continuing support and on-job training to the LGED laboratories to develop
and maintain their capacities for effective quality control testing. 4) Support and
oversee the Executive Engineers and upazila
Engineers in the quality control of the rural infrastructure construction
works, through frequent site inspection of compliance with standards and
specifications and of testing. Advise on resolving promptly at the site level
any problems arising. 5) Check laboratory
test reports and carry out sample spot checks of the conduct of testing.
Advise the Superintending Engineer Region and Executive Engineers on remedial
actions where problems are identified. 6) Provide prompt
advice, based on inspections when problems are identified with soils or other
materials during ongoing construction works. 7) Report to the
Executive Engineers on findings and recommendations from all site inspections
and checks. 8) Contribute to the conduct of technical
training on quality and safety control and testing as appropriate. |
Other
Details: It is expected that the services will be
commanded on 01st May 2016 for a considerable Man-months.
Interested consultants are required to submit their expressions of interest
in accordance with the standard Application Forms (standard Request for
Application) which will be obtained from the office of the undersigned during normal
office hours five days before deadline of submission. A complete set of “Request
for Application” including Term of Reference also be obtained from the office
of the undersigned. |
