Introduction
District is the second head of the administrative unit of the prevailing field administration of Bangladesh. After our independence in the year 1971 Bangladesh field administration started with 19 districts. Later on the sub- division were declared to be the district units. Netrakona was established as a sub-division under Grater Mymensingh district in the year 1982. Further it was declared to be the district on 1 February 1984 and segregated from Mymensingh.

Geographical Details
Netrakona is a Haor: area. The district is bounded by Garo Hills of Meghalaya province of the neighboring lndia on the North, Kishoreganj District on the South, Sunamganj district on the east and Mymensingh District on the west. The total area of the district is 2810.40 sq, km, A vast area of the total land is Haor especially in the Upazilas like Khaliajuri Mohanganj and Kalmakanda. Annual temperature; Average maximum 33.30 C and minimum 120 C. Total rainfall 2174 mm. Excluding the river lets the main rivers running through the districts are Sumeshwari, Kangsha, Magra, Dhanu, Dhala, Teorkhali.

Administrative Details
The district consists of 10 Upazilas, 5 municipalities, 36 wards. 102 mahallas, 86 union parishads and 2281 villages. The Upazilas are ATPARA, BARHATTA, DURGAPUR, KHALIAJURI, KALMAKANDA, KENDUA, MADAN, MOHANGANJ, NETRAKONA SADAR and PURBADHALA; municipalities are Durgapur, Kendua, Madan, Mohanganj and Netrakona Sadar. There are 08 Border Out Post in the district.

Historical events
During the British peasant revolt, Tonk and Tebhaga movements took place in district. The readers of the swadeshi Movement kited Balak Saha of village Borail in 1913 and Zamindar Mallick Bahadur of village Sahildeo in 1930 and looted there wealth. The three day All India Peasant conference was held Nagra of the district head quarters in 1945.

Communication facilities
The communication system of the District is very remarkable. Remarkable because here in the district there one Upazila which remain without communication with the district head quarter during rainy season. These Upazillas is Khaliazuri. Still the communication is facilitated with Roads: pucca: 468 km and earthen road 3403 km; railways 138 km; waterways 200 km.
