Faridpur district town stands on the bank of the river Kumar. It is located at 22.5-23.55N and 89.15-90.40E. It consists of 9 Upazillas, Pourashavas, 81 Union parishad and 1887 Villages. From the very begining people of this district are so much active. At first the lower custe hindus inhabitate here. It was established in 1815 by the name of a pious man Sheikh Farid Uddin. This Greater district was divided into five districts 30 years ago. These are Faridpur, Madaripur, Goplgong, Rajbari and Shariatpur. There are four religious inhabitantes live in this District such as Muslims, Hindus, Christian and Buddists. About 17,82,720 people live in this District. The total area of this district is 2072.72 sq.km. The average education rate is 43.95%. The main Occupations of the people of this district is agriculture. The Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was born in greater Faridpur. Haji Sariatullah, poet Jasim Uddin, F.R khan, Ombika Charan Majumder, Muktijoddha Birsrastaha Munsi Abdur Rouf, world famous Film maker Mrinal Sen, famous Singer Feroza Bagum, Fakir Alomgir, Kanailal Shil Song Writer was born in this District. The previous name of this district was Fathehabad. During the region of sher sha the Grand Trank Road was established which is known as Jessore-Faridpur high way. The River Research Institute (RRI) was established in 1990. Many Schools, Colleges, Madrashas, Temples, Mills and Factories are established in this district. Among them Madhukhali suger mills, Faridpur Zila School (1840), Govt. Girls High School (1910), Govt. Rajendra Collage (1918), Govt. Saroda Sunduri Mohilla Collage, Faridpur Medical College, Faridpur Diabetic Hospital & Madical Collage etc are mentionable. The Famous place like the house of Jasimuddin, Hajrat Sha Farid Mosque, Bishaw Zaker Manzil, Sree Angan, Bhanga Patrail Mosque and The Deowl of Modhukhali are more significant place of this district. The Deowl of Modhukhali was established in 1889 and its height is 21 meters which bears the dignity and heroism of the emperor. Jute, Paddy & Onion grow well in this district. The Curd and Sweet of Bagat are more famous for the other district of Bangladesh. There are some prominent rivers exists in this districts. They are Padma, Arialkha, Chandana, Madhumati etc. It is one of the potential District in Bangladesh in all respect.
