Shariatpur district town stands on the bank of the Mara Kirtinasha river and located at N 90°21' 0.388'', and E-20°12' 19.872''. It was established in the nineteenth century. It Consists of six Upazilas namely shariatpur Sadar, Janjira, Naria, Bhedargonj, Damuddya and Goshairhat. 6(Six) Porosavas and 65(Sixty Five) Union Parishad. Before District it was thana (name Palong thana) Under Madariapur sub-division. Shariatpur district has a long history and heritage in the diversified culture. In Moghal Period Barobhuiyan and Keder Ray was the Administrator of Shariatpur. Governor Islam Khan also the Administrator of Shariatpur in 1608-1613 BC. The Adjacent district are Munshigonj, Madaripur, Chandpur & Barisal District. The 3(three) main rivers i,e The Padma, The Meghna and The Arial Kha runs besides the Shariatpur district. The Land of Shariatpur is very fertile. Jute, Aus, Amon, Boro, Paddy & Robbi Crops grow in plenty. In the rainy seasons, fish is available here. Muslim and Hindus are lived togather in shariatpur district. Before classification of District it was sub-division Faridpur district. During the british period munsef court was established in Chikondi UP Under Sadar Upazila. Shariatpur sub-division established in November 03, 1977 and it becomes district in March 01 1984 as new district.
