Chuadanga district city stands on the Bank of the Mathabhanga river. It was a sub-division of former greater Kushtia district. It was upgraded to a zila on the 26th February,1984. It consists of four Upazilas, four Pourashavas and thirty-two Union . There are different views about the origin of the name of the Zila. There is a popular view that one Persian businessman named Chua Malik become very prominent in the present area of the zila headquarters. The zila name is believed to have derived from the name of the Persian businessman. The zila is bounded on the north by Kushtia and Meherpur Zilas, on the east and south by Jhenaidah zila and on the west by Meherpur zila and India. The total area of the zila is 1157.42sq km.(446.88 sq miles).The zila lies between 230 22’ and 230 50’ north latitude and between 88039’ and 89000’ east longitude. Chuadanga district has a strong history and heritage in diversified culture with indigenous Muslim, Hindus and Christian people. Chuadanga is food surplus area of Bangladesh. Moreover maize, rich, vegetable and mango, betel leaf production are remarkable than other districts. The intercommunication system of the district is enormously developed in the last two decades as a results most of the Unions, Growth centers, rural markets & villages are connected by paved road.
