About Naogaon
The district town Naogaon is bifurcated by the river little Jamuna, a branch river Atrai. The town located at 24.90ºN 88.75 ºE. Naogaon district was one of the Sub-divisions of former Rajshahi district of Bangladesh. Naogaon, a part of greater Rajshahi district was upgraded to Zila 1st March of 1984. It is bounded on the north by India, on the East by Bogra and Joypurhat districts, on the south by Rajshahi and Natore districts and on the west by Chapai Nawabganj district and India. The naming of the district town is a peculiar history. It is believed that the name ’’Naogon’’ was named after the two words ‘Nao’ and ‘Gaon’. In Bengali Nao means new and Gaon means village. So Naogaon is believed to be comprised of the then nine new villages. The district people are well known for their roles in the war of Liberation. Shahid Major Najmul Haque was appointed as the Wing Commander of No. 7 East Pakistan Rifles (EPR) wing at Naogaon Mahokuma at the beginning of March of 1971. He declared Naogaon as of a part of Independent Bangla and organized a battalion comprising with soldiers of EPR and volunteers. As the commander of that battalion, he took position at military camp at Bogra city after defeating Pakistan soldiers. Noted institutions: Naogaon K.D High School (1884),Naogaon Zila School(1917), Raja Haranath High School (1990), Kaligram Rabindranath Institute (1910), ChakAthita High School(1914), Chakla High School (1916), Kritipur High School (1921), Sharbamanal High School (1921), Paramohan Girl's High School (1909), Central Girl's High School (1926), Naogaon Girl's High School (1948), Basiruddin Memorial Co operative College (1946). Annual temperature: maximum 37.8°C and minimum 11.2°C; annual rainfall 1862 mm.

Main rivers are Atrai, Punarbhaba, Little Jamuna, Nagar, Chiri and Tulsi Ganga. Guta, Mansur and Dighalibeels are notable. Plenty of archaeological heritages, ancient mosques along with some majors are the notable ones of this district. Paharpur is an archeological site which has been tentatively listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Jagaddal Vihara, Vimer Panti, Mahi Santos majar, Alta Dighi (a large water body) in Dhamoirhat upazila are respectively well known for their nicely construction and excellent natural view. Diboir dighi of Patnitala upazila has a surprising history for its construction sequences while Kusumba mosque of Manda upazila was built by a high ranking personality named Sulaiman, during the period of Afgan rule in Bengali. Dubalhati Rajbari (Lord House) and Dighali Beel (a beautiful natural water body) of Naogaon sadar upazila are also very notable places for recreations. Today Naogaon district is considered the bread basket of the country. It is the central part of the Borendra region with an area of 3435.67 sq km, 80% of which is under cultivation. The most people of the district are farmers. The soil of the area is fertile inorganic clay called dhoyass. The main crops are paddy, jute, wheat, maize, sugar cane, potatoes, pulses, oil seeds, brinjal (egg plant), onions and garlic. Naogaon district is quite famous area for producing good quality of paddy and has been a top listed one in consideration with large number of rice processing mills. These days very sweet mangoes, even better than Rajshahi and Chapai Nawabganj districts are hugely produced in this district.
