The Location of Moulvibazar district is within 24.48093°N 91.76427°S. Sylhet District is in the North, Hobiganj district is in the West and Tripura State of India is in the South and East of Moulvibazar district. It is in the North-East Corner of Bangladesh which is adorned with the largest number of tea gardens, large wetlands Hakaluki and Hail haors mixed evergreen reserve forest. There is a unique combination of hill, plain land forest and haors. Along with that, the lifestyle of expatriates, culture of tea-laborers, heritage of ethnic communities like Manipuri, Khasia, Tipra has made the district a unique one.
Moulvibazar is declared as a district in 22th February 1984. It consists of Seven Upazilas, Five Pourasavas (Municipality) and Sixty seven Unions. Moulvibazar district has a strong history and heritage in diversified culture with indigenous Manipuri, Khasia, Tipra people. During the Mughal period Regional Administrative Centre was established in the Moulvibazar City Magistrate Court and Thana (Police Station) were established in the beginning of the nineteenth century. The Moulvibazar Municipality was established in 1869. The Telegraph Office and the Munsif Court were established in 1861 and 1887 respectively. Government College of Moulvibazar was established in 1856 and Moulvibazar Government women College was established in 1885. Moulvibazar is renowned for some of the tourist places like Natural Cascade of Madhabkunda, Madhabpur Lake, Lawaserra National Forest and Madhabkunda & Borshijura Eco-Park for its hill view. Moulvibazar is food surplus area of Bangladesh moreover, Nazir-Shail and aromatic rice production are remarkable than other districts of Bangladesh. The intenal communication system of the district is enormously developed in last three decades. As a result most of the villages are well connected with an excellent rural road network constructed by LGED. There are some prominent rivers exists in this district and these are Monu, Dholi, Gopla, Kontinala, Juri, Fanai etc. It is a flash flood prone area as a result habitants of this district face this challenge every year. Moulvibazar has an Air-port at Shamsernagar under Kamalganj Upazila. Maoulvibazr is one of the potential district in Bangladesh in all respect
