Greater Chittagong Rural Infrastructure Development Project-3 (1st Revised) (GCRIDP-3)

Objective

Bangladesh is a fast developing country. The development challenges of Bangladesh are: Population density, geographical location and climate change. About 1146 people live in every square kilometer in Bangladesh, which is one of the first ten countries in the world with a high population density. However, considering the density of population in only low-lying areas, Bangladesh is one of the first few countries in the world. 70% of the population of Bangladesh now lives in rural areas.



In the last decade, despite the significant increase in poverty reduction, overall poverty rate in Bangladesh is 31.50%. In the meantime, the poverty rate is 35.20% considering the rural areas. The rate of extreme poverty in the country is 21.10% (HIBS2010). With the Government of Bangladesh, through a dynamic plan, poverty alleviation, rapid growth and expectations of the country to be transformed into middle-aged country.

1.Circulation of agricultural/non-agricultural economy through development of rural roads in Chittagong and Cox's Bazar districts.

2. Improving the quality of life for rural people by increasing transportation facilities to villages, markets, health centers, educational institutions and other service-providing institutions.

3. Employment generation in short and long term.
